A Story of Identity – In the Words of a Youth from Gilgit
Amidst the beautiful mountains of Gilgit, a child was born whose gender was not clear even to the doctors at birth. The family was suspended between joy and confusion. Relatives had mixed reactions — some called it “God’s wrath,” while others preferred silence.
The child’s parents knocked on many doors, but no one could give them a satisfying answer. Time passed, but the question remained the same:
“Is the child a boy or a girl?”
This uncertainty about gender was not just a physical issue — it became an emotional, psychological, and social trial. From school admissions to daily life, every step was a hurdle. For the parents, each day was a battle — with themselves, with society, and above all, in search of their child’s identity.
Then one day, someone mentioned the Birth Defects Foundation.

A diagnosis was made.
And most importantly — the child was heard.
