October 22, 2025In the medical curriculum, intersex (ambiguity of gender) is not taught, and in MS and BS Psycholog programs, gender dysphoria related to transgender individuals is not included in the syllabus. To address these important topics, the Birth Defects Foundation has formed an advisory board that is designing a course outline to incorporate these subjects into the curriculum. This course will be submitted for approval to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the Pakistan Medical Board.
The advisory board members are as follows:
- Dr. Qibla Ayaz, member of the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court, Vice-Chancellor of Peshawar University, and former Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council, is presiding over the board.
- Ansar Javaid, Chairman.
- Prof. Dr. Afzal Sheikh, Chief Surgeon.
- Dr. Nasir Mehmood, representing the Birth Defects Foundation.
- Dr. Inamullah, Director General of Research, Islamic Ideology Council.
- Dr. Waheeda Anjum, Chairperson, Behavioral Sciences, University of Lahore.
- Dr. (Commander Retd.) Muhammad Fayyaz, HOD, Preston University, Islamabad.
- Dr. Amjad Tufail, HOD, Leeds University.Lahore
- Rahm-ul-Qadir, HOD, Psychology Department, Government College, Rawalpindi.
This board is currently designing the course, which will, God willing, soon be submitted to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for approval.
