A True Story: A Patient Caught Between Being Transgender and IntersexThis is the real story of a young patient from India, around 25–26 years old, who found the Birth Defects Foundation through its YouTube channel and other online sources. He reached out with a deep concern: he was unsure about his gender identity and had lived with this confusion for a long time.Through online consultations (OPD) and tests arranged by the Birth Defects Foundation, it was determined that his condition could, in fact, be treated. Medically, he had the anatomy of a normal male, and with appropriate surgery, his issues could be resolved completely. However, according to the patient, when he consulted doctors in India, they dismissed his case by saying, “You should just join the transgender community — your life will go on with them.” This response left him confused and disheartened. He pinned his hopes on the Birth Defects Foundation, trusting in its guidance and care. He shared his reports, voice messages, and detailed chats with the team. But after a full diagnosis, he was advised to pursue treatment in India itself — not because the Foundation didn’t want to help, but because of the current geopolitical situation. Due to restrictions on visas between India and Pakistan, he simply cannot travel to Pakistan for surgery. The essence of this story is not just about one patient. It’s about the reality that only God knows the full extent of each person’s struggles. The Birth Defects Foundation has always kept its doors open to humanity — regardless of race, religion, or nationality. Anyone in need of medical care is welcomed. In this particular case, the patient was honestly informed that the Foundation, given current circumstances, could not assist further. He was advised to consult a qualified urologist and endocrinologist in India for further evaluation and surgical planning. He mentioned that the cost of the operation in India is approximately 1.5 million Indian Rupees, a figure that has deeply worried him. He said, “When I learned that treatment like this was possible, I had so much hope.”May Allah ease this young man’s journey and create pathways for his healing.
