The Birth Defects Foundation is currently running several impactful initiatives across Pakistan and is planning to expand its services further. Below is an overview of our active and upcoming projects:

1. Healthcare Centers Across Pakistan

At present, the Birth Defects Foundation operates five healthcare centers—two in Lahore, and one each in Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi. These centers function as screening clinics for children born with disorders of sex development (DSDs), particularly those with 46XX Intersex and transgender conditions.

Currently, over 18 categories of such children must travel to Lahore for diagnosis and treatment. By establishing 20 filter clinics in major cities across Pakistan, we aim to eliminate this burden. Patients will be able to receive preliminary diagnosis at a nearby center, and only those requiring surgery will be referred to Lahore.

These centers can be sponsored by philanthropists in memory of loved ones or under a family or company name.

2. Lifetime Medication Support Program

Children with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) 46XX, a form of intersex condition, require lifelong medication—specifically Hydrocortisone and Florinef—which are imported and expensive. A one-month supply costs approximately PKR 15,000.

The Foundation is currently providing 100% free medication to nearly 300 patients.
Philanthropists are invited to sponsor the monthly medication of one or more patients to ensure uninterrupted treatment.

3. Surgical Sponsorship Program

For many children with DSDs, their gender becomes physically defined only after undergoing two to three reconstructive surgeries. The cost of these surgeries in the private sector is around PKR 300,000.

You can sponsor a full surgery for just PKR 250,000, helping a child live a healthier and more dignified life.

4. Intersex & Transgender Rehabilitation Centers

We aim to establish rehabilitation centers in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi to support intersex and transgender individuals with medical, psychological, and social reintegration services.

  These centers can be sponsored in the name of a loved one, yourself, or your organization.

5. Construction of a Teaching Hospital

The Birth Defects Foundation plans to build a comprehensive Teaching Hospital, Research Facility, and Rehabilitation Center dedicated to the treatment and study of birth defects and intersex conditions.
